Would I be able to dye my hair dark red again if I were to dye it black?

I have been dying my hair a dark red (burgundy) shade since November, 2006. The hair colour I have been using is L'oreal Feria's Chocolate Cherry. I used to have brown hair with blonde highlights before so I find that my hair looks very colourful now (it looks like I have lighter red highlights now where the blonde was before). I really like my hair colour now but it seems to fade really fast. I was thinking of dying it black since I also like very dark hair and was considering dying it dark for a change. If I were to dye my hair black and I didn't like it, would I be able to dye my hair red again once the black colour has faded? Or would it show up as a weird colour? I really need advice since I plan on dying my hair tonight since tomorrow is my first day of school. Thank you for your time! :)

Go with a semi-permanent dye. If you dyed it with a black permanent dye and waited for it to fade (the most black will fade to is dark chocolate brown) then dye it red it would end up tinted with red.... not the vibrant shade you used to have. Your awesome red highlights would also be gone and the only way to get them back would be to bleach it. The only way to get black permanent dye out of your hair to dye a lighter color is to bleach it or be patient and let it grow out. If you hair is longer than shoulder length I wouldn't recommend bleaching it, since this damages your hair and you would have to wait years for it to grow back out to the length you have.

Good luck :)

No It wouldny be that same if you dyed your hair black you would have to grow it out befor you dyed it again and remember to wait 6 weeks

NO! Once you go darker you would have to bleach or strip the color before you could go lighter, even if it isn't much lighter. Colour doesn't lift it only deposits colour. Plus the double process of stripping then colouring again will leave your hair damaged.
