Hi, I have naturally black hair but have been using henna for a red tint.now I really want dark red

I recently tried doing these highlights at home with a highlighting kit but they didnt really show up...should I try getting them done professionally or will this damage my hair? what is the best way to go about it? my sister had the same problem but they bleached her hair and once her brown highlights faded they became yellow. how can i prevent this? I dont want my red highlights to fade to a pinkish orangeish yellow!

When using henna you should add Cinnamon or cumin or paprika to to the mix, this will help keep your color from fading. Also use Aveda shampoo and conditioner for hair that has been color treated with red dye.

Get yourself to a salon and ask for Revlon Red Lights. Super high intense red highlights!

You would have to get it done professionally. With you having black hair.... for the red to stand out... it would have to be bleached just a tad. No this will not hurt your hair. They will just lighten it to be a light golden brown to a middium brown. Once it has reached that color... they can apply the dark aburn onto strip ofhair with foil and let the stripes sit for 15 to 20 mins.

first do not bleach your hair or damage it. Make sure you use 100% pure body art quality henna for your hair as this will give you the best deepest reddish tones then any old stale henna in a box. Go to a supplier who carries the freshest henna it really makes a difference and go from there. try ebay.com too for body art quality henna powder

Henna, is going to require professional assistance, as it can create a barrier on the hair hard to penetrate with color. Red is the hardest color to get out of hair and the hardest color to keep in. Once you have achieved your highlights get some color friendly shampoo, to assist the fading process, because it will happen. make sure and tell your hairstylist everything, esp. what happened to your sisters hair and the fact that you have been using henna and you attempted to do an OTC color kit, that failed.

go to a salon. very imporant. never try to be cheap when it comes to your hair. ask if color grafix will your for your hair type. just so you know salons don't use revlon. if they do try a new salon. scary. redkin blonde dementions is also a killer product. then remember your hair is bleached after that. watch the tanning beds.
