Hair folicle drug test and pot?

Okay, so I just got my fried a job at my work and he has to do a hair follicle drug test. He told me he smoked pot about 3 or 4 weeks ago... once or twice. And that was the first time he had done it in years. Will it show in the test? Could he get away with saying he was around other people who did it and that he didn't... or do they not buy it?

The hair follicle test is a tough one, and it goes back a lot further than 3 or 4 weeks. Probably about 6 months.

There are shampoos available that can get you to pass this drug test. They can be found at your local head shop/bong shop/whatever you call it. A good friend of mine successfully used one of these products.

The fact that he smoked only once probably doesn't help him, unless he only took one hit and he has less THC in his system than the drug test would report as a positive result. Also, the less you smoke the slower your body metabolizes it.

Britney Spears shaved her head to avoid a drug test. I guess he could try that, but using a shampoo that probably costs $20 seems like a lot better, and a lot safer idea.

As for the excuse that he was just around smokers: keep in mind that any drug test allows for a minimal amount of THC so that they do not report false positives. This would probably negate any excuse that he was just hanging out where pot was being smoked. To fail a drug test with a reasonable error rate you would pretty much have to smoke it, not just go to a concert. Maybe you would fail it if you hung out every day with your buddies in a hot-boxed car, but then your employer would wonder why the hell you are clam baking everyday after work.

I think KEVIN K has the best answer. It will definitely show up to 6 months back. I wish him much luck in trying to deceive the test. And no, they won't even buy the "I was around friends who did it" excuse. He will even be judged on the company he keeps. God bless and much luck to him.

If the residue from the drugs ingested is in the hair follicle, I'm not sure any amount of washing your hair can remove it. If it was as easy as washing your hair to remove the residue, the test wouldn't be very valid would it?
